LEWES, Del.- Road construction is resuming on Nassau Commons Boulevard, bringing potential traffic delays for shoppers headed to the Redner’s grocery store and other nearby businesses.
The project, led by contractor A-Del Construction, includes water main upgrades, storm drain installations and full roadway reconstruction. Officials say work will continue for about two months and will shut down the entrance from Route 9 to Nassau Commons Boulevard, leaving only one way in and out for drivers.
The Delaware Department of Transportation said the long-term goal is to install a traffic light at the intersection of Nassau Commons Boulevard and Route 9 to improve safety and traffic flow.
In the short term, however, locals are bracing for delays. “It’s hectic,” said Hal Faden of Lewes. “Because it does get backed up at the light there. So it's just probably going to take a couple extra minutes. I guess more patience would be involved, you know, to get your shopping done.”
With the project timeline pushing into summer, traffic volume could spike as seasonal visitors return to the area. This project was first started in December 2024 but paused after a few days.
