LEWES, Del. - A Delaware voter is publicly urging action over the long-term absence of state Rep. Stell Parker Selby, saying her continued lack of participation has left constituents in District 20 without representation.
Nick DeCerchio, a Democrat who lives in District 20, and his wife voted for Parker Selby in the last election.
"We felt that she was the best candidate to fill that position as a state representative," DeCerchio said. "But now her absenteeism is what we are very disappointed in."
DeCerchio also expressed frustration with how the Democratic Party has handled the situation, saying leaders have been unwilling to discuss the matter publicly.
"Theyāve just stonewalled everything," he said. "Refused to discuss it with voters and constituents. Itās inexcusable, it really is."
Parker Selby's absence has been attributed to a massive stroke this winter. DeCerchio says he has contacted Sen. Russ Huxtableās office and emailed Parker Selby directly, but has not received a response.
"Set politics aside. A special election would be the way to go, or appoint an interim representative until a special election can be organized," DeCerchio said.
CoastTV has reached out repeatedly to House Democrats since June 19 but has received no response.
