SOUTH BETHANY, Del.- Homeowners and landlords in South Bethany could see higher property and rental taxes beginning in the 2026 fiscal year. This depends on what the town council decides during its meeting on Friday morning.
Town officials are considering the increase as part of a broader financial outlook for the beach town. Currently, South Bethany says it generates about $660,000 annually in rental revenue.
Some locals are already weighing in. Jim Hardman told CoastTV he still finds the taxes reasonable. "I'm able to go by, see the progress on the trail, the locomotive, and, you know, it's a good location for people to walk, ride their bikes, and be able to observe the work that they're doing on the railroad project," he said. "So it's very good."
The town council meeting, which starts at 9 a.m., will also address other issues including proposed regulations on recreational vehicles in town and a possible ordinance to allow food trucks during special events. Town officials could also approve the budget for fiscal year 2026.
