MILTON, Del. — A special election to fill the vacant 20th District House seat will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, following the resignation of former state representative Stell Parker Selby.

In a letter addressed to Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown, Selby wrote that the decision to step down comes after “deep reflection and many heartfelt conversations” with her family and medical providers. The resignation is effective immediately.
Parker Selby stepped down effective June 24, triggering a Delaware law that requires a special election to be scheduled within a set timeframe when a legislative seat becomes vacant. The Department of Elections will oversee the race.
Republican candidate selected, Democratic nominee to be decided
Dr. Nikki Miller will be the Republican candidate for the race. She lost the seat to Parker Selby by just 275 votes in 2024.

Dr. Nikki Miller is congratulated after being announced as the republican nominee for a special election for District 20.
Five democrats are in the running to be the Democratic nominee, participating in a forum by the party July 3.

The public forum for Democratic candidates will be held on Thursday, July 3, at the Lewes Public Library.
House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown issued the writ of election on Thursday July 3, formally setting the election date as Aug. 5. The winner of the special election will serve out the rest of the current term, which expires on Election Day in November 2026.
