GEORGETOWN, Del. — The Blood Bank of Delmarva is hosting a community blood drive at Sussex Academy on Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Organizers say there are still appointments available and are encouraging locals to donate. Each donation supports the region’s blood supply and also helps fund a scholarship for a Sussex Academy student. Last year’s scholarship recipient was Ellie Davis.
Donors should first check in at the Aquatic Center before heading to the Blood Bank of Delmarva’s mobile van parked outside the building. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit the Blood Bank of Delmarva’s website.
Sussex Academy Scrub Club's Jenna Davis and Kaylie Pederson say it feels good to make a difference.
"Every time I donate blood, it makes me feel like I'm a part of something, that it's helping people. And even if I'm not actually working to help people, it's just giving my own blood feels good," said Pederson.
"It's very reassuring to know that we're helping. And there's a lot of people who need blood; they always need blood donated. So it's nice to be able to do something for my community," said Davis.
