REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The city of Rehoboth Beach wants the public's help with coming up with solutions to solve the traffic congestion and parking issues in town. On the city's Reach Out Rehoboth website, a survey was uploaded for everyone from locals, business owners and workers, to visitors to fill out. The city says its biggest issue is spacing. One business manager told CoastTV employees, not just visitors, struggle with parking daily.
"To buy a parking pass, you have to pay 250 dollars for the season, and one of my employees it would take her two weeks to be able to afford that." Chandler continued, "So they should discount people that work in town or even employers that work in town to be able to provide that for their employees," explained Jessica Chandler, store manager of Top It Off.
Charles explained she struggles to hire employees because many are turned off by the parking. The city is hoping solutions from the parking survey could change that.
Lynne Coan, Communications Manager for the City of Rehoboth Beach, stated, "Well traffic and parking is always a hot topic in Rehoboth, and yes the hope is that we can come up with and identify some real solutions that will ease congestion and the parking."
With the large crowds that visit Rehoboth Beach in the Summer, parking can almost feel impossible.
"I do think a parking garage would be beneficial because there are so many people, especially in the Summer, that come down, and people do get frustrated when they have things to do down here and they can't find somewhere to park," explained Tyler Bailey, store manager at Sole in Rehoboth Beach.
The survey is open until November 26th. The city says data collected from the survey will be presented to the commissioners at the December 4th meeting.
