LEWES Del.- The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park will close on March 1 to protect threatened and endangered beach-nesting and migratory shorebirds.
The annual closure helps preserve vital nesting and feeding areas for species such as the piping plover and red knots.
The ocean side of The Point is scheduled to reopen to the public on Sept. 1, while the bayside beach will remain closed until Oct. 1 due to shorebirds migrating south for the winter.
