Crowd gathered to honor fallen firefighters

EMMITSBURG, Md. - A Delaware volunteer firefighter killed while helping at a crash scene last year was honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Thomas Wilson Berry III, 23, died August 13, 2024, after stopping to assist at a crash on Lewes Georgetown Highway. While off-duty, Berry was struck and killed when a utility pole snapped, bringing down live wires.

Berry volunteered with the Georgetown and Ellendale Fire Companies.

He is among those being honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland. A candlelight vigil was held Saturday, May 3, and the official memorial service on Sunday, May 4.
