MILLSBORO, Del. - According to state economic data, Sussex County is the fastest growing county in Delaware. This had led to redistricting in the Town of Millsboro.
Infact, there's been so much growth that Town Manager, Jamie Burk, says the Town's three election districts had to be rearranged.
"Due to the unprecedented growth here in Millsboro, we had to take action to balance them out. The goal is to have them within 10% of each other," Burk explained.
House Bill 25, which was signed into law back on May 7th, allowed the Town to make those changes.
Representative Rich Collins who represents the Millsboro area says it needed to happen to bring the Town into modern times.
"They had a big population change in recent years, especially because they are locating in kind of one area, then that voting district became much, much larger than the others. It means that the voters in that district had far less individual influence. So it's a common thing," said Collins.
Burk tells CoastTV the new district map achieves the 10% population difference.
"With this redistricting, we're really close to that," said Burk.

According to Burk, moving forward every 10 years with the census, the Town Council will be able to reevaluate and then move the district lines around to make sure that that 10% margin remains.
