REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The Rehoboth Avenue drawbridge is set to undergo a maintenance makeover, with DelDOT planning to clean and repaint the bridge’s structural steel to prevent corrosion.
The project is scheduled to take approximately 10 weeks to complete, with work planned between October and December 2025. During this time, delays or detours may affect both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The project will also involve coordination with marine vessel traffic.
Matthew Stanislao, commenting on the project’s timeline, said, “It’s certainly optimistic. If they feel like they’re using or they have enough time in the offseason to do it, but it’s been my experience that there’s always some type of unforeseen delay.”
Dawn Buckworth emphasized the necessity of the project, saying, “I think it would be great. And it needs repair, so they need to do it.”
A public information session about the project will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. The session will address the reasons behind the painting work, the project’s timeline, and its potential impact on local traffic patterns, including on Rehoboth Avenue, Canal Street, and marine traffic.
