LAUREL, Del. — Police responded Tuesday morning to reports of shots fired near Discount Land Road and Seaford Road, prompting a temporary “Secure and Hold” at North Laurel Early Learning Academy.

The Laurel Police Department said by the afternoon that there is no threat to public safety and a coordinated effort with Delaware State Police and Probation and Parole is on-going. According to police, no one has been confirmed hurt. The investigation is ongoing and accounts for the large police presence in the area. Drivers should expect delays due to road closures and diversions.

The "Secure and Hold" at the academy was lifted about 2 p.m. when police determined that the suspects had left the area. School officials emphasized there was no direct threat to the building. In a message to families, they confirmed all students and staff are safe, the building is secure, and law enforcement and constables were on site as a precaution.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police had not released additional details about the shooting or whether any arrests have been made.
