MILTON, Del. - A 57-year-old woman, now identified as Sonya Sheppard, is dead after her home was shot at multiple times, with at least one bullet coming into the house and striking her.

Authorities say it happened around 11:15 p.m. on Monday on West Springside Drive, off Cool Spring Road.  Upon arrival at the scene, troopers found the woman inside with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Given the circumstances surrounding the death, the Homicide Unit has taken charge of the investigation.

According to state police, preliminary findings indicate that the victim's residence was subjected to multiple gunshots by an unidentified assailant. As of now, there is no available information on the suspect responsible.
