REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - High temperatures didn’t stop crowds from enjoying the outdoors in Rehoboth Beach, even as the nation's summer capital experienced its hottest day of the year so far.
People were seen walking up and down Rehoboth Avenue and heading into the ocean to cool off. Many said they were taking steps to stay safe and beat the heat.
Some of the same safety measures were highlighted in Thursday's coverage as temperatures began rising across the region.
First-time visitor Tim Michael shared how he was handling the weather.
"We've been here about four hours, you know, plenty of water, keep hydrated, and every so often, going to the water. The water is beautiful," Michael said.
Businesses in the area were also busy helping customers stay cool. At Archie’s, some visitors stopped in for fresh drinks.
"We are keeping cool by getting this lovely orange juice, fresh water excuse at this place here," said Elayne and Arnold Clift, who are visiting from Vermont.
This is also the time of year when foot traffic increases, but on especially hot days, the business gets even busier.
"In the morning, it's always busy with lemonade because it's very hot. It's hard to refresh. Lemonade helps refresh and then, in the afternoon, it's like good for ice cream because it's when they finish dinner," said Oak Sangadkid, a staff member at Archie's.
Others turned to sweet treats. Bessie Johnson, who was celebrating her birthday, chose ice cream to cool off.
"It is keeping me cool. It's delicious, and I enjoy eating ice cream," Johnson said.
With more hot days ahead, be sure to find ways to stay cool.
