DELAWARE - Volunteers said they've noticed an increasing amount of trash at the Delaware Seashore State Park.
Lisa Bellek volunteers five days a week at the Indian River Inlet. Her duties vary, but every day she spends at least two hours picking up trash, often filling a large bucket with items.Â
Bellek said she feels discouraged the more trash she finds.
"Nobody wants to sit on a beach and feel like they're sitting in an ashtray. If I'm not picking up these cigarette butts, they're going to stay here," Bellek said.Â
Delaware State Parks recruit several volunteers to help with cleanup efforts every summer. Bellek said she feels like the parks do a good job of maintaining the parks, but she does think there needs to be more signage to deter people from littering.Â
"We just have to just be a little bit better. We're not going to be able to stop all the trash, but it impacts all of us," Bellek said.
