The fire on Blanchard Road started just before 9 p.m. More than one tanker reportedly had to be called to the scene. Though there were no reported injuries to firefighters, the office of the Delaware State Fire Marshal confirmed that an unclear number of 2-week-old birds died.

The building was a total loss and damage is estimated at $400,000. The fire marshal said Tuesday morning that the cause of the fire is still under investigation and may remain undetermined.
