Delaware hunters set new records for wild turkey and white-tailed deer harvests during the 2024-25 season, marking the first time both records were broken in the same year.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is reporting an almost identical harvest compared to the last year for the deer firearm season opener. the department says despite below-normal temperatures, hunters and junior hunters contributed to managing the deer population.
As Delaware enters deer mating season, authorities urge drivers to exercise caution on the roads due to increased deer activity, especially during dawn and dusk, and recommend safety measures to prevent collisions.
This year, several significant changes have been made by DNREC to hunting and trapping regulations in Delaware. Among the most notable is the introduction of Sunday hunting for gamebirds, as well as revisions to deer and turkey hunting seasons.
With wildlife activity peaking in Delaware, DNREC is reminding visitors and locals alike: If you encounter young animals, especially deer fawns, seemingly alone in nature, do not interfere.
