The United Way of Delaware has launched a new round of the Delaware Delmarva Power Customer Relief Fund to provide up to $500 in utility bill assistance for eligible Delmarva Power customers in Delaware.
Delaware Electric Cooperative has restored power to nearly all members affected by this week’s blizzard after more than 80 hours of restoration work across Kent and Sussex counties.
Utility crews continued working Wednesday, Feb. 25, to restore power across Delmarva after a powerful winter storm left more than 100,000 customers in the dark at its peak, disrupting communities across the state’s southern coast.
A severe blizzard damaged Coastal Wilds Zoo, knocking out power for 44 hours and collapsing the lynx enclosure, though no injuries were reported.
Delaware Electric Cooperative crews restored power to 5,000 homes and have now brought electricity back to 95 percent of homes affected by the recent winter storm, according to the utility Wednesday morning.
Power crews have restored electricity to 40,000 homes since the winter storm began Sunday, with 20,000 of those homes coming back online overnight, according to an update from the utility at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The City of Rehoboth Beach is no longer asking people to use caution with water usage and flushing toilets following a power outage at the city’s wastewater treatment facility.
The extreme cold seen this past January, and December of 2025, caused Delmarva Power to have to meet a significantly higher demand for heating. Delmarva Power saying those two months ranked some of the coldest of the decade.

Delaware Electric Cooperative is warning people to prepare for strong winds and bitter cold this weekend, even as snow totals are now expected to be lower than earlier forecasts.
