DNREC’s Sand Bypass project will restart around Sept. 11 at Delaware Seashore State Park, bringing temporary access restrictions as crews move sand from the south side of Indian River Inlet to replenish the north beach.

The funding is part of the fiscal year 2026 appropriations process, during which McBride secured more than $19 million across 15 community project requests throughout Delaware.

The contractor told CoastTV the dozer was not stuck, but stopped moving after a computer error code. 

The Indian River Inlet Sand Bypass System is now fully operable following an upgrade from diesel to electric power, according to DNREC.

The group observed areas affected by coastal erosion and went to see ongoing replenishment efforts supported by $8.1 million in combined state and federal funding.

According to Delaware Seashore State Park, the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the weekend. 

The organization is calling on representatives from the Department of Transportation (DelDOT), the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), and Delaware Seashore State Park (DSSP) to host a meeting about the hazards.
