Maryland State Police are investigating the death of inmate Virgil Bernard Robinson, 38, found unresponsive at Eastern Correctional Institute in Somerset County. A person of interest has been identified, with charges pending the outcome of the investigation and autopsy.

A prisoner started a fire in their cell around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday at the Eastern Correctional Institution, causing inmates to relocate while the incident was handled.

Garland “Fast Eddie” Parks, a 58 year old man of Rumbly has been arrested for first-degree assault.

According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, a fire was reported on March 15, 2024, at 9773 Stewart Neck Road, Westover, Somerset County. The fire, which involved a structure and farm equipment, happened at the James Nelson Farm.

While no humans were hurt or killed, one dog was found dead after the fire was put out. 

A fire at the Lake Somerset Family Campground store caused an estimated $200,000 in damages, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
