DELMARVA - Isolated showers or thunderstorms will remain possible late Monday evening across Sussex County, though the threat of hazardous weather is expected to remain low. Any storm could produce a brief heavy downpour before activity gradually fades overnight.

Conditions will remain humid overnight, with temperatures generally falling into the upper 60s to low 70s.

Heat and humidity will increase sharply Tuesday as upper-level high pressure strengthens across the eastern United States. Afternoon temperatures across Sussex County could climb into the lower to middle 90s, with dew points near 70 degrees. Heat index values could rise well into the 90s and approach 100 degrees in some inland locations.

The combination of heat, humidity and an approaching frontal boundary will also create a more favorable environment for thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

There is a Slight Risk, or level 2 out of 5, for severe thunderstorms across portions of the region Tuesday. Storms developing or moving into Sussex County could become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts and large hail among the primary threats. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Heavy rainfall will also be possible. Atmospheric moisture will remain high, and repeated thunderstorms could produce locally excessive rainfall. Areas that have received significant rain recently could be more vulnerable to localized flash flooding.

The exact timing and coverage of Tuesday's storms remain uncertain, but the overall pattern favors an increasingly active stretch of weather beginning Tuesday and continuing through Thursday.

Residents should monitor changing weather conditions Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially during outdoor activities, as storms could develop or intensify quickly.
