Rehoboth 100th birthday

Rehoboth Beach honors local Mable Granke’s 100th birthday.

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- The City of Rehoboth Beach will celebrate longtime community advocate Mable Granke’s 100th birthday by proclaiming March 30, as Mable Granke Day.

Mayor Stan Mills and Board Vice President Patrick Gossett, along with the Board of Commissioners, issued the proclamation Friday to recognize what they say is Granke’s decades of dedication to public service and local activism.

Granke, born March 30, 1925, has lived in Rehoboth Beach for over 35 years. According to the city, she has consistently championed affordable housing, land use, traffic, parking, and protecting the natural environment, attending countless public meetings and writing hundreds of letters to the editor.

Her public service record includes roles on the Montgomery County, Maryland Planning Board, and the Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission. She has also contributed to numerous local organizations, including Save Our Lakes Alliance 3, the Village Improvement Association, West Rehoboth Land Trust (which she co-founded), Immanuel Shelter and the Citizens Coalition.

Rehoboth Beach leaders say Granke’s efforts have earned her multiple accolades, such as the Village Improvement Association’s 2017 Citizenship Award, the 2020 Community Advocate Award from the Community Resource Center, and the League of Women Voters of Sussex County’s first Flame of Democracy Award in 2010.

The City will honor Granke’s centennial birthday on March 30, recognizing her lifetime commitment to bettering Rehoboth Beach and Sussex County.
