litter on lewes beach

From plastic bottles to socks and shoes, leftover items obscure the scenic walk for many.

LEWES, Del. - Littering on the beach in Lewes has caused concern from some locals. From plastic bottles to socks and shoes, leftover items obscure the scenic walk for many.

6-year-old Elianna Clark points out all of the trash she can see from walking with her mother along Savannah Beach,

"I saw that broken spoon over there and I also found this rubber thing that looks like it's from a car wheel - there's also some litter over there..."

Even dog owners like Patrick O'Leary said he notices dog poop in the sand as well and that's despite the risk of fines up to $500. O'Leary's solution to the litter bugs, more trash cans.

"Recycling, trash cans, etc... I think that would be both due to benefit the public to be able to have a source to be able to discard certain things, yeah."

If you have a larger item that is left on the beach, like a crab trap or beach chair, you have until Oct. 31 until it is thrown away by the City of Lewes.
