DELAWARE - The Delaware Department of Agriculture unveiled a new all-time high sales record for the state's farmers markets in 2023, reaching a total of $4.14 million across all 17 community-run markets.

According to the department, figures were up $437,136 from the previous record set in 2022.

Fresh produce constituted the majority, comprising 52 percent of total sales, with the remainder stemming from various products like meats, cheeses, jellies, breads, salsa, eggs, and honey.

“I believe this sales record showcases the fact that residents and visitors to our state want to continue to support the family farms that produce Delaware Grown fruits, vegetables, meats, and value-added products,” said DDA Marketing Specialist Kathy Jackson.

The forthcoming 2024 market season is scheduled to commence in May, with most markets anticipated to be operational by late June. An updated list of 2024 markets will be available on Delaware Grown's website in April.

Additionally, the DDA plans to open registration in May 2024 for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, catering to Delaware residents aged 60 or older who meet specific income eligibility criteria.
