Local Businesses Struggling With Low Supply Of Products & Higher Prices

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- When you walk into some businesses, you may find higher prices or empty shelves.

Pet Wants says its been unable to get any sweaters or jackets for pets shipped in due to the supply chain and that's a popular gift for pet owners this holiday. Owner Chad Miller says one pet toy company he works with has seen dramatic rises in shipping costs.

"For what he was paying for a slot fee for his container was $7,000," Miller said. "He just received an invoice about three weeks ago for $21,000. So, with that price going up three times it's only a matter of time before it gets passed on to the consumer."

Hair styling products are low in supply as well. Salon Coordinator at Salon H2O Fusion of Lewes Cassandra Parker says customers have been coming to re-stock to no avail.

"They're coming in really slow and little by little and people are really once you get them using that styling product it's tough because they're like I don't have it. I need to have it," Parker said.

Another industry that has taken a hit due to supply shortages are clothing stores and if you look through the rack of a certain store and are unable to find what you're looking for, Gingham + Grace Clothing Owner Jami Jackson says that some fabrics are harder to find.

"Right now, denim is difficult to get in," Jackson said. "That's something that seems like their timeline is getting pushed back farther and farther. But again, whenever I reach out to the brands that I carry and my reps I buy what's in stock right now."

Each business had their own advice for shoppers while dealing with this supply shortage. The first is to be patient and maybe try and find an alternative product or a small business that offers a similar product, Also, call the store before heading there to see if the item is available.
