ROUTE 16

Roadwork at Route 1 and Route 16 continues The next phase is set to begin on April 21.

MILTON, Del. — The Delaware Department of Transportation is holding a public workshop Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Milton Public Library to share its latest plans for Route 16, a key roadway connecting central Delaware to the beach communities. A hybrid option is available for people who wish to attend virtually via Microsoft Teams.

The workshop takes place 4 days ahead of traffic pattern changes at the route 16 and route intersection. Officials say the overall Route 16 improvements will also improve conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians, who frequently use the route.

DelDOT is currently reviewing traffic data and modeling results, with a focus on eastbound traffic patterns from Ellendale to Route 1, where about 60 percent of through traffic continues toward the beaches.

Workshop Agenda Includes:

  1. Preliminary Traffic Modeling & Future Monitoring

  2. Alternatives Development, including future traffic projections, potential road layouts, and integration with other transportation planning projects

  3. Ongoing Public Involvement

  4. Next Steps in the project timeline
