The Starboard Restaurant

The Starboard restaurant in Dewey Beach has raised hundreds of thousands for childhood cancer support through annual fundraisers.

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - The Starboard has surpassed $599,000 in total donations to The B+ Foundation, a nonprofit that supports families of children with cancer.

This year’s Black Tag Auction, now in its 13th year, raised $85,870. The annual fundraiser offers VIP passes to the Dewey Beach venue, with all proceeds going directly to the foundation.

The B+ Foundation was founded by Joe McDonough in honor of his son Andrew, who died of leukemia. McDonough said the funds will help 71 families with basic living expenses, including housing, as many parents lose their jobs while caring for a sick child.

“In the face of childhood cancer, every act of kindness becomes a symbol of hope,” said Keith “Toastie” Kirk of The Starboard.

Owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery credited the community for supporting the cause year after year.

“We like to see people showing up to support causes like fighting childhood cancer, and these organizations are doing important work for the people they serve.” Montgomery said.

The Starboard hosts several other fundraisers throughout the year, benefiting groups such as the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and local fire departments.
