GEORGETOWN, Del. - An 81-year-old Georgetown man died after a crash Friday on Dupont Boulevard, according to Delaware State Police.
Troopers said a Ford Explorer was traveling southbound near McColley’s Chapel Road around noon April 17 when it gradually left the west edge of the roadway and struck a mailbox, a road sign and an embankment. The vehicle then caught fire. Bystanders pulled the unresponsive driver from the vehicle and began life-saving efforts, troopers said.
Investigators believe the driver experienced a medical emergency before the crash, according to police. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. Dupont Boulevard was closed for about two hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. Grade One K. Marvel at Delaware State Police Troop 5 at 302-337-1090.
