E-Bike safety concerns raised at Bethany Beach committee meeting

E-Bike safety concerns raised at Bethany Beach committee meeting.

BETHANY BEACH, Del. - The Bethany Beach Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Committee met April 24 as a regular meeting and e-bikes were the topic of conversation for some time. The committee calls them fast and dangerous but they say there are many recommendations on how to deal with them safely.

Police departments across the country have rules and procedures for e-bikes, and town officials said a solution may need to go beyond Bethany Beach.

Committee member Dan Rosenblatt said, “I’d like to suggest we do a special effort because I think we can make a lot of progress, not just here in Bethany but all up and down Delaware's roads.”

One idea discussed was equipping police departments with e-bikes to appear less intimidating to young riders.
