CAMBRIDGE, Md — A fire that broke out late Thursday afternoon destroyed a large pole barn in Dorchester County, Investigators say the preliminary cause was the spontaneous combustion of hay stored inside the structure.

The fire was reported at 4:50 p.m. on June 26 at 5334 Town Point Road. According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, the 40-by-120-foot barn, owned by Ashley Baynard, was fully involved when the Rescue Fire Company arrived.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in structural damage and an additional $50,000 in lost contents. It took approximately two hours to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
