FRANKFORD, Del. - The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, confirmed that a small EF-0 tornado briefly touched down near Frankford on June 30. NWS has released a preliminary report of the tornado and damage.

According to the preliminary survey released July 2, the tornado formed at 1:16 p.m. and reached estimated peak winds of 65 mph. Its path was about half a mile long and up to 100 yards wide. No one was hurt in the storm, and no deaths were reported.

The tornado moved east-southeast through a heavily forested area between Omar Road and Shockley Town Road before dissipating. Videos shared by locals  showed the funnel cloud moving among the trees.

Damage assessors noted broken branches and other signs of wind damage near the touchdown area. Survey crews were unable to access some wooded sections, so additional damage may have occurred that has not been documented.

The weather service classified the storm as an EF-0, the lowest rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which measures tornado strength based on damage. EF-0 tornadoes have estimated winds between 65 and 85 mph.

The report is preliminary and could be updated after a final review.
