A homicide investigation is underway in Fruitland after a 27-year-old was found dead in a home on April 25. A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder. Maryland State Police are leading the investigation.

SOMERSET COUNTY – Maryland State Police investigators are looking into the death of a state prison inmate in Somerset County.

Inmate, Shane Lanham, 28, was declared dead on March 29 by emergency medical personnel. Lanham was serving a sentence at the Eastern Correctional Institute in Westover when he was found unresponsive.

A suspect, also an inmate, has been identified but has not been charged at this time. The suspect's identity is being withheld as the investigation continues.

Maryland State Police investigators, along with crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division, responded to the scene.

Once the investigation is completed, the findings will be submitted to the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. The investigation remains active.
