LAUREL, Del. - Delaware State Police have arrested a Laurel man in connection with a string of thefts targeting unlocked cars across several Sussex County neighborhoods in June.
Investigators said 22-year-old Donsha Sturgis was identified as one of the people involved in the thefts, which happened overnight between June 10 and June 17 in Autumn Oaks, Overbrook Shores, Vincent Overlook in Milton, Eagle Run in Lincoln, and Edgewater Estates in Lewes.
According to detectives, the accused thieves trespassed onto properties and stole money and belongings from cars that were left unsecured. During the investigation, troopers determined a silver Chevy Cruz had been used during some of the thefts.
On July 1, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on the 2800 block of Daniel Street in Laurel. Sturgis was taken into custody without incident and brought to Troop 4, where he was charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors.
The charges include:
Three counts of theft under $1,500 where a victim is 62 years of age or older (felony)
One count of conspiracy 2nd degree (felony)
Five counts of theft under $1,500
Eleven counts of criminal trespass 3rd degree
Sturgis was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.
