SALISBURY, Md- The Salvation Army Lower Eastern Shore isn't looking to see if you've been naughty or nice, they just want to give Christmas spirit to local children. December 13-17, volunteers are packing up donations brought in for the Angel Tree program.
Angel Trees are placed in stores in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties. Each tag on the tree has the name and age of a local child, along with what they need for the winter, and what they are asking for this holiday. Of the 1,100 children that are part of the Angel Tree program, each one will get a bag full of toys and clothes before Christmas.
Bags are filled with books, clothes, video games, and some with bikes. Most of the Angel Tree tags have sponsors, but those that don't will still get presents. The Salvation Army will use donations and partner with Toys for Tots to make sure every child's needs are met.
So far a lot of the gifts that have come in are for babies and young toddlers. The Salvation Army still needs more gifts and clothes for children 11 to 14 years old.
"Boys and girls. That seems to be the age range we are lacking in year after year...gifts for the older kids," said Major Cristina Trantham.
If your family would benefit from the Angel Tree Program, Salvation Army Lower Eastern Shore begins taking applications around September each year. If you want to donate time or gifts, visit the Salvation Army website to learn how.
