MILFORD, Del. - The Milford Streets Department is conducting its annual wastewater sewer flushing, with crews working through several neighborhoods during the week of March 30.

Work is currently focused on North Church Street, West Street, North Street, South Church Street, Maple Street and Causey Street. According to the city, the maintenance is part of routine efforts to keep the sewer system operating efficiently.

During the flushing process, people who live there may notice temporary changes inside their homes including: water bubbling or splashing in toilets, sinks and bathtubs, along with brief sewer odors and loud noises coming from drains or equipment.

City crews are urging locals to take precautions to reduce the chance of water damage like keeping toilet lids closed, plugging drains and covering basement floor drains, removing bath mats and making sure backwater valves are clear and working properly are also recommended.

After flushing is complete, people should run water in sinks, tubs and toilets to refill drain traps. Pouring water into floor drains and opening windows can also help clear out lingering odors.
