MILLSBORO, Del. - Students from the Spanish immersion program at Millsboro Middle School recently hosted a social studies fair, presenting projects in both English and Spanish.
The sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students displayed more than 75 poster boards and 3D models in the school auditorium. Their work covered topics in geography, civics, economics, and American history.
Among the projects were presentations on Mount Everest, the economy of Grotto Pizza and the three branches of the U.S. government.

Eighth grader Raúl Hernández Barrios focused his project on the Holocaust.
"I was just shocked to know that they have been killing much, especially since they just separated the men, children, women, and they have they just got babies, then they just burn them automatically," said Hernández Barrios.

The projects took about three weeks to complete, between conducting research, assembling their trifolds and building 3D models.
Anna Milán, a social studies teacher at Millsboro Middle School, praised the students' hard work.
"They had an amazing time. It was difficult for them. Researching in English and in Spanish is very difficult. Just like the school year was, learning content of social studies in two languages," Milán said. "It's a little bit difficult, but they stepped up and they did an amazing job, as you saw. I'm really proud of them, I really am."
The event marked a hands-on, bilingual approach to wrapping up the school year.
