However, the people he serves on a daily basis know him as Chef Ricky. He's been running the kitchen for seven months after working at a senior living facility for 19 years.

"We prepare 150 meals from Monday to Thursday for meals on wheels for our members outside of the building. Then on Friday, we take care of members that are in house,ā€ said Pitts.

Ashlyn Elliott, the new center director, says they offer a number of services including senior housing, transportation, memory care programs and support groups.

Elliot says they need help with meals on wheels deliveries and are also looking for kitchen assistants.

"It could be up to 15 clients on each route and they're spread all over the place. So that's something that's really important to us, is our volunteers," Elliott shared.

Pitts says he will never turn down extra helping hands.

"Any volunteers that want to come in and help, please do. We will welcome you with open arms."

Anyone looking to become a volunteer can either apply online or stop at their local CHEER center to fill out an application in person.Ā
