Milton construction continues on new sidewalks and handicapped accessible ramps

MILTON, Del. - The town of Milton is doing some construction around town to improve pedestrian safety.

They are working on a project bringing new sidewalks and handicapped accessible ramps to Union and Broad, Federal and Mulberry and Wharton and Chestnut Streets all which will cost the town 226,000 dollars of tax grants

One local William Boyle said Milton needs the work.

"You see more people walking their dogs, just walking and biking than ever in this town and I've lived here since 1974," Boyle said.

The town says increasing the sidewalks width will help with traffic calming, pedestrian safety and the ramps help Milton be ADA compliant.

Some locals like Maureen French said the construction so far around town has made a difference.

"The sidewalks make it more accessible for people who are riding bicycles, or are in wheelchairs or push strollers," French said.

Although locals like Tom Barry said he would've liked to see more done with the sidewalks.

"How does this help the walkers, these little tiny stretches of new, is it any wider than it was or is it just newer?  I don't know," Barry said.

All three sites should be ADA compliant and the project should be complete sometime next week.
