milton water tower

MILTON, Del. - The Town of Milton is looking to make major improvements to its water infrastructure. The projects the town hopes to undertake include:

  • Another water tower on Federal Street to accommodate growth in the community.
  • Replace water mains under five different streets: Carey Street, Walnut Street, Magnolia Street, Mill Street and Bay Avenue.
  • Make upgrades to the water treatment facility on Chandler Street.

These projects come after years of attempts to repair the water mains as they break. All of the projects combined would require a $6,214,000 loan from the state, specifically from the State of Delaware Drinking Water State Revolving Fund with an interest rate of two percent with a 20-year term.

"I know that they're in bad shape so I know that's something that most likely has to be done." said Michael Getzelaff, who lives on Carey Street. "We're on a really small street so I'm just a little concerned about how the operations are going to work."

For over $6,000,000, Josh Fredo hopes the town will consider additional improvements as the town digs up the roadways for the water lines anyway.

"Roads... roads and sidewalks and bike lanes because we have so many bikers that get hit." said Fredo.

A decision is expected to be made at Monday's Mayor and Town Council meeting on the resolution to hold a public hearing for the loan to fund these water projects. If it goes forward, it will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Milton Fire Department according to the town.
