Ocean City prepares for possible return of H2Oi

OCEAN CITY, Md. -  The town of Ocean City is taking precautions in case the unsanctioned car rally H2Oi makes its return.

Ashley Miller, the deputy communications manager for the Ocean City Police Department said it has implemented special event zones to keep things under control.

"We have a few resources in place and that one main resource is a special event zone," Miller said. "So it gives us the lower speeds, the increased fines and the penalties for certain behaviors such as you're spinning your wheels."

But some like local Lindsey Rego said she doesn't mind H2Oi.

"In the summer we always deal with different events like the motorcycles and cruise week and the hot rods and H2Oi and the town's just busy for those events," Rego said. "You just kind of know that and it doesn't necessarily bother me noise wise."

But the department said H2Oi isn't the only event it takes precautions for police do it for Cruising OC and Endless Summer Cruising.

"Those are the ones that draw the largest spectators up on the sidewalk, you see people are putting their chairs out and bright and early because they want to see all the cars that are traveling down coastal highway," Miller said.

Shawn Harman, a partner at Fish Tales restaurant said he doesn't want the car rally in Ocean City but he knows it is out of his hands.

"You can't really stop it, all you can do is manage it," Harman said.

The Ocean City Police Department said they don't expect H2Oi to come back this year but they are prepared if it does. They said they welcome any events who want to come to Ocean City but they need to respect the rules of the road and the town.Â
