Dewey Beach, Del. - Parking in Dewey Beach could become more expensive. On Dec. 15 the town is set to review a number of proposed ordinances that suggest parking fee changes. These changes are aimed at bringing more money into the town. Town commissioners would review possible ordinances that would increase the current daily and hourly parking hours as well as the duration of the paid parking season. These changes include:
- Increasing the current daily rate from $25 to $30
- Increasing the current hourly rate from $3.00 to $3.50
- Changing the parking fee season to May 1 to Sep. 30
In the past, commissioners voted to keep the parking season at its current standing of May 15 to Sep. 15. Parking has been an ongoing discussion, with town officials looking to bring in more revenue. According to the town, this money would go towards town projects such as lifeguards, police, a donation to the Rehoboth Beach fire department and infrastructure. After reviewing the ordinances, the next step would be for commissioners to vote on adopting the changes.
