Rehoboth Beach is preparing for high tides and severe winds

Winds could reach up to 40 miles per hour, and along with strong winds, flood warnings are in place along the coast

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The recent severe winds in Rehoboth Beach almost make it impossible to walk around. Winds could reach up to 40 miles per hour, and along with strong winds, flood warnings are in place along the coast.

Carolyn Diefenderfer lives in Rehoboth Beach, on a street filled with large trees. Diefenderfer explained to CoastTV, strong winds are a worry because she is surrounded by trees.

"We had an oak tree in the front yard that had died and we got it taken down specifically because we were afraid of branches falling. " Diefenderfer continued, "We do take notice of our neighbors trees and if something is hanging over our property we do ask them to trim it."

Kevin Williams, the Director of Public Works for Rehoboth Beach, urges business owners and locals to take precautions against high winds in order to prevent damages and injures.

"We have a lot of construction going on, so making sure your materials are weighted is important, and everyone must keep an eye out for broken or loose branches."

Flooding is a serious concern for business owners on the boardwalk. Jaya Aildasani owns Jewels by the Sea in Rehoboth. Aildasani moves her jewelry up and away in order to prevent expensive damages.

"Sometimes the insurance won't cover everything, so you have to move stuff to be safe," said Aildasani.

The City of Rehoboth also advises people to keep checking the weather and local social media pages to stay up date on the weather.
