NEWARK, Del. - It was still a nonetheless inspiring game for the Vikings in the DIAA 3A state football finals which saw Salesianum overcome Cape Henlopen 45-17. The game was held in the rain Friday night at the University of Delaware.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the first quarter when freshman quarterback Jameson Tingle hit Lucas Stevenson for an 8 yard touchdown.
In the second quarter, Salesianum tied the game when Brady McBride hit William Neumann in the corner of the endzone for a 9 yard touchdown pass.
After that, both teams added field goals to make the score 10-10 at halftime.
Salesianum took control of the game in the 3rd. After receiving the kickoff, a deep ball from McBride was hauled in by Benjamin Anton at approximately the Cape 45. Anton ran the rest of the way for 73 yard touchdown and a 17-10 Sallies lead.

A pick six against the Vikings furthered the lead, and another unanswered touchdown by Salesianum with 5 minutes left in the third solidified a 31-10 lead.
The 4th quarter began with yet another Sallies TD, though Cape's Lucas Stevenson scored a touchdown to put the game at 38-17.
Seconds later, the Sallies responded with one final TD to cement their victory over Cape Henlopen at 45-17.
This is the first time Cape has been in the finals since 1984, though their season's performance is a sure indicator that the Vikings will return to the State Championship again.
