OCEAN CITY, Md. - The Sept. 16 weekend was big in Ocean City for bikers, as BikeFest drew motorcycle fanatics from across the country as well as local bike shop owners. It was a big weekend for environmental activists, too.

Go Green OC, a grassroots organization that focuses on helping Ocean City become the first zero-waste resort town in America, led a project to recycle cans that were used and discarded during the festival. Volunteers of all ages gathered over four days to collect and recycle about 118,000 cans.

"What a win for mother nature!" the organization celebrated on Facebook.

The organization has worked previously to reduce food waste at resort area restaurants by offering a compost pick-up program through the town.
