SALISBURY, Md. — TidalHealth gave local students from Wicomico and Somerset counties an opportunity for some hands-on learning on Monday at their healthcare career exploration event.
Students made the trip to the Simulation Center at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional where they got to take part in 10 interactive stations designed to introduce students to a variety of healthcare professions.
Some of the featured exhibits included using ultrasound machines, AED trainers and laparoscopic training devices. They also practiced scrubbing in for surgery and explored careers in physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy and pharmacy. Students even got the chance to perform newborn exams, using a Doppler to hear a fetal heartbeat.
One of the interactive stations demonstrated how to "Stop the Bleed" during emergency situations.
After the hands-on activities, students got to replenish with a lunch that doubled as a networking opportunity where they met with representatives from local educational institutions and TidalHealth staff.
According to representatives from TidalHealth the event was designed to inspire interest in healthcare careers and provide students with a deeper understanding of the skills and opportunities available in the field.
