LAUREL, De - Expansion and upgrades are big parts of proposed projects at Trap Pond. On Tuesday DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation hosted a community meeting at the State Park.

It includes the expansion of the campground, trail design and planning, park and campground office improvements, the addition of water amenities such as a splash park, natural and cultural resource improvements, and boat rental and dock improvements.

Growing the size of the park is key to this plan. "Our goal is Trap Pond is going to be the largest state park in our system," Division President Ray Bivens told WRDE. "We are talking about land acquisitions that has already happened... and we can look at future options for growing the park."

A number of improvements proposed are the result of feedback from the public. "We are just glad to see that this park is finally going the be the beneficiary of comments from people who use the facility over the years," Delmar resident and regular camper at Trap Pond David See said. "They are finally going to invest more money in the park."

Some of that money will go towards the construction of the splash park. Funding for that specific addition was recently approved in the Delaware budget for fiscal year 2023.
