GREENWOOD, Del. - Delaware State Police announced on Friday that Brian Holben, the attempted murder suspect who exchanged fire with troopers Tuesday night, has been found dead. This comes after a search warrant was executed on Thursday
The agency says its detectives assisted Maryland State Police, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force. Detectives say their investigation lead them to find Holben inside a camper in Maryland. Despite attempts to get him to surrender, Holben barricaded himself inside. Police say when they entered the camper, they found Holben with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He died at the scene.
Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Kent County Governor's Task Force and Probation and Parole located 27-year-old Brian Holben in a parking lot on Hickman Road. Holben had multiple warrants and is wanted for attempted first degree murder, reckless endangering and multiple firearms felonies.
Detectives initiated a traffic stop when police say Holben tried to use his Jeep to push two state police vehicles out of the way. They then tried to remove Holben from his car when he allegedly pointed a gun at an officer and fired. Detectives returned fire before Holben ran into a wooded area. No one was hurt, according to police.
The troopers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave and a use of force investigation will be conducted.
