new milford police station

The building can't officially open until the department is granted a certificate of occupancy from the city, they also need the gates to the fenced in parking area to be delivered, and there is some IT equipment still on the way as well.

MILFORD, Del. - The Milford Mayor and City Council recently unanimously voted to sign the final documentation for a USDA loan that will fund the new police station. However the delay in opening the new station comes mainly from challenges with the supply chain.

"We didn't want to have an open house without having the building looking as close to how it would look to when we moved in as possible." said Sgt. Timothy Maloney, Public Information Officer for the Milford Police Department.

A date for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new station is expected to be announced Monday. Judi Morris, who has lived in Milford since 2015, is excited to see the new station be put to use,

"My first thought was 'Wow I'm glad we're getting that so we know we feel safe and sound!' "

The new station includes room for four dispatch centers, ADA compliance to community office spaces, and more privacy for those grieving that visit the station. The building can't officially open until the department is granted a certificate of occupancy from the city, they also need the gates to the fenced in parking area to be delivered, and there is some IT equipment still on the way as well.

The department says with the rapid growth, they need this larger space to train onsite and safely deal with the demands of the city,

"If we would have a major incident in the City or even in a close proximity, we could act as like a command center with both our training room and our other conference room area all linking together." said Maloney.

Morris looks forward to seeing a growth in the force as the city grows,

"I see the police around all of the time so even more would be even better!"

According to the Milford Police Department, they're hopeful to be in the new facility and utilizing it by the new year.
