Two Ellendale Fire Company trucks were damaged when people threw rocks at them during the call on Nov. 13, according to the company. Equipment belonging to three other fire companies on the scene was also damaged by rocks.

"We are aware of unknown suspects throwing rocks at responding fire apparatus," the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company said on social media after the initial incident.

Norman "Jay" Jones, PIO of the Ellendale Fire Company, said glass got on one firefighter but he was not hurt.

"Of course it was a shock," Jones said. "This is nothing new. Years ago, we had BBs shot at us in Milford from kids with BB guns."

The fire companies, including Greenwood, Ellendale, Seaford, Bridgeville, Farmington, Harrington, Carlisle and Houston, were responding to a fire around 8 p.m. on First Street in Greenwood. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating this fire.
