SNOW HILL, Md.- The Worcester County Health Department is inviting local organizations and farmers to apply for funding that will help expand access to healthy food in Berlin, Pocomoke and Snow Hill.
The grants are part of the "Cooking up Health: A Nourishing Neighbors Program," funded by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. This initiative targets nutritional insecurity and supports people facing diet-related health issues across the region.
There are three distinct grant categories:
Little Free Food Pantry Boxes: Groups can receive up to $750 to build and maintain small, publicly accessible pantry boxes stocked with food in the target towns.
“Pop-up” Farmers Markets: Local farmers are eligible for up to $6,000 to host temporary markets in underserved communities.
Community Gardens: Organizations may apply for up to $2,500 to establish and maintain gardens that supply fresh produce.
A virtual pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for April 7 at 1 p.m., giving interested applicants a chance to learn more. All applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on April 25.
Digital application packets are available on the Worcester County Health Department’s website. Grant recipients will be announced after May 15.
