SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - A thunderstorm warning is in effect for Sussex County until 9:45 p.m. as power outages are reported across parts of southern Delaware.

Delmarva Power reported 5 outages affecting 23 customers from Laurel.

The outages come as severe thunderstorms move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a "watch" means hazardous weather is possible, but the exact timing, location or occurrence remains uncertain, giving people time to prepare and monitor forecasts.

An "advisory" is issued when less severe hazardous conditions are occurring, imminent or likely and could cause significant inconvenience or pose a threat to life or property if precautions are not taken.

A "warning" means hazardous weather is occurring, imminent or likely and poses a threat to life or property, requiring people in the affected area to take protective action.
